So, who are you and what’s your role here?
I’m Jess, and I’m a Legal Assistant, but I’ll be starting as a Graduate Apprentice in January.
You did work experience with us – what was your impression of Circe Law from that?
Jade and Lisa took the time to teach me and were really patient – they taught me everything I needed to know. Everyone else in the team were really nice and welcoming.
Why did you choose to join the team permanently over other options?
The way everyone treated me during my work experience, making me feel like part of the team from the outset, made it an easy choice. I really felt like I could learn from the senior management, Lisa with her Property work and Jade with Private Client.
Where do you hope to go with your career?
I want to be here. They’ve put their time and effort into me, and I want to do the same for them. I’m hoping to become better at what I do, and one day be like Jade and Lisa in a senior position, and a head of department wherever my path may take me. I also want to win awards, both personal and for Circe, like Jade has done.
In a similar vein, where do you hope Circe goes in the coming years?
I think Circe will be able to expand further through Lisa and Jade’s wide network, they’ll bring on new employees and with Tom doing social media that should bring in more traction, and maybe one day there’ll even be more offices under the company.
When and how did you decide that you wanted to go into Law?
The short answer; Suits. The long answer; I don’t really know. I think it was because nothing was really engaging me at A-Level, but I thought criminology was interesting. The head of my sixth form recommended I take law because of my interest in criminology, but I think I fully knew this was the career for me when I volunteered at the legal advice centre at Royal Holloway.
What’s one thing you would say you need in a colleague?
I really appreciate someone who is understanding, and at this point in my career, someone who is willing to teach. I hope one day I can provide that for the younger generation. I also think it’s undervalued that you have colleagues who are easy-going and can joke around with.
You’re on a desert island – what 3 things do you bring and why?
I’d bring a sleeping bag and a book, and then Bear Grylls, who can do all the hard things while I relax.
If you could live in any country outside the British Isles, where would it be and why?
I always wanted to learn Spanish, and it’s a really nice country. The hot weather alone is enough for me.
Do you prefer client meetings or office work and why?
I enjoy it all if I’m being honest. I like meeting the Clients, because we can find out about their matter and how we can help, and it’s nice meeting the people rather than learning about them through a file. But I like the office work because obviously I’m still learning from Lisa and Jade so I am still being taught how to draft all the paperwork, so I think it’s all interesting.
What’s the best part about working at Circe Law?
I really enjoy still learning, and experiencing the profession I spent so long studying. I also really like my co-workers, so it’s hard to pinpoint one thing.
