What’s your name and what do you do here at Circe Law?

My name’s Wendy Pick, but everyone knows me as Wendy Woo (a nickname given to me by my dad and it stuck), I work as a legal secretary.

How did you find out about this role?

Jade helped with my Will back in 2017, which is how I first met her. I’ve had a recent bereavement last November, after my children’s father passed away. I needed a solicitor but when I contacted Jade’s old firm, I found out she had instead started Circe Law. I then heard about an opening role for a legal secretary which I was interested in, and the rest is history.

What would your ideal co-worker be?

They would be open, honest, have a good sense of humour, and always look out for the underdog – they would have a bit of justice about them.

What made you choose Circe?

It’s the feel about the environment and general setup, you get the sense that the team has a lot of integrity and honesty amongst each other, and especially with clients and I really value that.  Circe Law also raise a lot of money for  Thames Valley Hospice who are very dear to my heart, they looked after my mother for her end of life care and gave her a lot of peace, that is a priceless memory.

What’s one piece of advice you wish you’d heard earlier?

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself – what will be will be. Give yourself time to learn and grow and you’ll be better for it.

Who was your role model/biggest inspiration growing up?

First and foremost, my mum and dad. They worked hard all their lives and we never went without, even though we didn’t have much, we had a very happy childhood. If I could mention a celebrity figure, it would be Billy Connolly, because despite a working-class background he persevered and came out on top.  I met him once when he lived locally in Bray, I could not talk, which he found hilarious.

Can you describe yourself in 3 words?

I would say loyal, trustworthy, and maybe a little bit crazy, in a good way.

What’s your first impression of the Circe Law team?

It’s like the nice part of your family, you know, the parts you want to visit.

If you were on a desert island, what would you bring and why?

To start off, a shade umbrella – I’d need to be in the shade. I’d also bring a telescope to look out for a rescuer. And also a flare, to attract that rescuer.

What are your thoughts on this industry?

Generally, solicitors are perceived as there to bill people. It’s rare to find someone who thinks a solicitor is concerned about the treatment and outcome of the client. Big firms just see numbers, whereas small firms like Circe are there to do the best for the Client, and I have first-hand experience of that.
