I thoroughly enjoyed my week of work experience here at Circe Law, where I got to learn more about the Wills and Probate Industry. Before my week here, I had no experience in this industry and minimal knowledge on what Wills and Probate entailed. Coming out of Circe Law, I can now say that I am very interested in the industry and would look forward to a longer time here so I could learn in more detail.
As I am an incoming Second Year Law student, I aim to get experience in a range of law expertise so I can determine what suits my skill set, and more importantly, what I find interesting. I especially find the Private Client sector appealing, as I feel I would prefer a more front-facing approach when communicating with clients, utilising skills such as empathy and being personable, whilst remaining professional.
What I learnt at Circe Law:
I was given the opportunity to sit in on an initial client meeting with Jade, which I found to be the highlight of my week, as I was fascinated by how the firm works with clients who possess such a wide asset profile. Another exciting moment was drafting my first Will, which was a challenging but fulfilling experience. Jade was able to give me advice on how to approach trickier areas in future. I appreciated these opportunities as it was a chance to experience law in action and get a taste of what being a Private Client Solicitor means.
Equally, as Jade highlighted to me, admin and organisational skills are just as important when becoming a successful lawyer. I had the chance make calls with the Probate Registry and other establishments, followed by writing up attendance notes. I was also given the opportunity to send emails and documents to clients. Getting to use the case management software ‘LEAP’ was especially interesting as I was able to compare it with a different software I had used at a previous firm.
A special thank you...
I have to give a special thank you to Jade for making this week so enriching for me and giving me an insight into the work of a leading Private Client Solicitor in the industry
