Having completed my first year of law and now preparing for second, I would often hear that the module of trusts and wills was considered ‘boring’ and the most difficult. However, I can definitively state that my two weeks at Circe Law Ltd proved this assumption wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, and the environment of constantly learning kept me engaged throughout.

Before starting my work experience, I had no idea what private client matters truly involved. Nonetheless from the first day, I was tasked with answering calls from clients. I still remember how nervous I felt to do so and how worried I was about making mistakes! As the days went by, I got to draft many client letters, exchanging correspondence with many governmental departments and corporations, and assisting with multiple Wills and LPAs in a variety of ways (even being a witness to a Will signing!).

With this experience, I’ve felt my confidence strengthen as I grew increasingly comfortable in my role. This is heavily down to the lovely group of women I worked with every day. Circe Law has such a supportive and positive work environment; they don’t just maintain a high standard of professionalism with their work, but also with how they care for each other. It was beautiful to see the shared celebration for someone else’s achievements, whether in work or their personal lives, and the genuine concern that they hold for one another.

What I genuinely appreciated was that the team took the time to know me as a person, even though I was only there for temporary work experience, making me feel so seen during my time here. Also, instead of just instructing me on tasks, they took time out of their busy schedules to explain legal concepts I hadn’t learned yet, ensuring I understand ‘whys and whats’ behind everything I was doing. I’d like to also especially thank Jess, Elizabeth and Sophie for having incredible patience to answer all of my questions.

The most rewarding aspect to this experience was undoubtedly the client-facing work. Being able to provide any form of reassurance during a client’s moments of active grief or in general easing the tedious legal processes was significant for me. Hearing the relief and the gratitude in their voices, highlighted the real-world impact of compassionate support in private client matters.

Although, I was only at Circe Law for two weeks, I have learnt so much and have gathered valuable insights to take with me to second year and life in general. A huge thank you to Circe Law for making this experience possible!
