Following the completion of my LLB undergraduate degree, I recently embarked upon a four-week work experience placement at Circe Law Ltd. My time at Circe has allowed me to develop an understanding of how a law firm operates in practice, and I have no doubt that this experience will be useful to me throughout my entire career.
As a law student, it is becoming increasingly hard to gain experience in a law firm alongside your degree, yet employers do not seem to want to hire graduates with no experience even for entry-level positions. Although I did volunteer at my university’s Legal Advice Centre throughout my studies, firms often prefer graduates to have a more practical understanding of their operations than the LAC can provide. Recognising this, the supervising solicitor at the Legal Advice Centre introduced me to Jade at Circe.
The work experience that I have undertaken at Circe has done more than just ticking a box that says I have experience in a firm, it has provided me with vital skills such as legal document drafting and taught me how to properly engage with clients. I believe that my experience at Circe will boost my employability and set me up for a career in the legal field.
Circe stands out from other firms especially when it comes to training. Whilst it would be easy to allow trainees to shadow solicitors, Circe encourages their work experience trainees to get involved with a range of different matters. This has not only allowed me to develop skills rather than just observe them, but the trust that the team at Circe have put in me has boosted my confidence in my own legal ability and I know that I will use this confidence going forward.
Every single member of staff at Circe has helped me with a task at some point, the patience and encouragement from everyone has been overwhelming and I am grateful for their support. Jade has an amazing team, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my four weeks with them.
Going forward, I wish everyone at Circe the best and know that the firm will continue to thrive and grow long into the future.
